Aim: To construct a helath and saftey assessment of one or more photo-shoots. I will be conducting for my magazine considering all possible eventualtiies

The health and safety act of 1974 :

  • Had to be followed by all employers/authorities responsible for workers in the uk
  • A H&S Commission was created


It protected people against risks to H&S  in terms of:
  • Dangerous substances/materials
  • maintenances of systems
  • provision of instruction and training
  • working environments
  • allowing unions the right to create reps and to enforce it
  • Inspectors could gain access to workplace

NUJ - National union of journalists :
NUJ'S H&S Concerns:
  • Bullying
  • Stress
  • Repetitive Strain injury (RSI)
  • Public order situations
  • Conflicts Zones
  • Exiled Journalists
What types of risks may there be in a photo shoot :

  • Model could be epileptic and be sensitive to the flash of the camera (light sensitivity)
  • Having a light fall on you
  • tripping on a wire
  • falling of or over a chair
  • being electrocuted by a bare wires
  • Fire's
  • Falling from a high place/elevated position if trying to get a higher angle/shot with the camera
  • Adequate lighting needed/High viability
  • Out door safety for urban environments
Risk: How great the chance that someone can be harmed by a hazard
Hazard: Anything that can cause harm (E.g. Chemicals, Electricity, Ladders, Etc.)

Effect of a hazard:
Major- Death or major injury or illness
Serious- injury or illness
Slight- other injuries or illness

Likelihood of harm:
High
Medium
Low
